You’ll see faked documents and propaganda that hypes an enemy, and hysteric reactions in every war, including propaganda used by the US in World War I and World War II directed against the Nazis, and in the Cold War directed against the Soviets. You can go back even further. Remember the Maine! (the sinking had nothing to do with Spain) The Zimmerman Telegram (used by the British to get the US into WWI). The XYZ Affair.
The reason why we bombed Serbia over Kosovo was also based on a fraud, and I remember a lot of nasty propaganda during that war.
While people on the left point out how Republicans threaten civil liberties on issues like wiretapping and profiling, people on the right point out how Democrats threaten civil liberties on issues like gun control and hate speech.
One of the steps that dictators use to gain power, btw, is gun control–one of the very first things that Hitler did upon coming to power. He also promised that government would take care of the economy.
Just as Naomi Wolf publishes this book, Jonah Goldberg publishes his book ‘Liberal Fascism’, and O’Reilly compares moveon.org people to Nazi brownshirts. And, somewhat independently from these forces, Pat Buchanan publishes ‘State of Emergency’ and ‘Day of Reckoning’.
There’s a whole cottage industry around selling stories to one political group about how the other is fascist and will destroy America.
I’m not disputing whether any of the things Naomi Wolf points out in this interview are ‘scary’. Some of those things are scary.
Our political system is corrupt, and it has nothing to do with Bush, but both Democrats and Republicans, left and right.
Gore’s people were watching the 2000 recounts, just like Bush’s people were.
But part of the corruption in politics, is the extreme, bitter, almost paranoid, partisanship, that views the other side of the debate as evil; and is willing to corrupt the law and act immoral and sell out to money just to defeat them in an election.
Naomi, being in an academic background and interested apparently in Jungian psychology, herself rehashes a lot of stereotypes, like Republicans being ‘men in the exact same type of suit’ and linking that to fascism. She doesn’t see that all the things she’s picking out coincide with her view of politics, as she’s ignoring a lot of other things, that the other side is using to call her side fascist.
Yes, WAKE UP. But part of WAKING UP is not buying this BS anymore, and doing politics as grown ups. Only then will we be able to deal with the corruption that is damaging our country.

Obama is on record as wanting to raise a civilian security force on par with the armed forces, Namoi supports gun control, Namoi seems to have forgot that it was Joseph Kennnedy who had to be recalled form the Uk because he was a nazi supporter, Obama wants to subvert the press, she needs to get her story right
basically she is asying Democrats are nice and repubs are evil. By the it was democrats who invented the dept of Homeland Secuirty and the TSA
I satrted to read her book but after a few chapters I just thought in the first place this woman is from NYC and has never known actualy freedom and in the senconed place she would know a patriot if she tripped over one
