Israel has announced to unilaterally cease fire in the Gaza Strip while leaving its troops in positions they had seized during the so-called Operation Cast Lead. Al Mezan Center’s staff visited some of the areas the IOF left last night and today morning. It found out that a disaster had struck these areas, which had not been accessible for weeks. The findings provide evidence about the likelihood that the IOF had perpetrated war crimes in these areas. In particular, dozens of civilians’ corpses have been found in a bad condition under the rubble of destroyed houses. Moreover, the scene of destruction of neighborhoods suggests that wide-scaled home demolitions were systematically conducted by the IOF.

On January 12, 2009, the leader of the Jews-only state in Palestine Ehud olmert revealed to a Jewish audience in Ashkelon that he had insisted George Bush should tell Condoleezza Rice to vote against a United Nations’ resolution calling for a ceasefire to the Israeli attack on Gaza. Olmert did not inadvertently humiliate the president of the United States of America; the secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice; congress; and the American people, by divulging this information. I recently read that one of my heroes, Kevin Barrett, is leaving the country.  Barrett is a strong proponent of 9/11 truth and an even stronger enthusiast for human rights.  He cited several things, pictures of dead babies on the news overseas, probably the most exasperating, but he mentioned something else that should hit all of us square between the eyes, as well…the American Dream is dead.  He, like so many of us, is just plain fed up with the lack of conscience of this country’s leadership.  I have to say, that I can’t blame him.

One of my students was arrested yesterday and spent the night in a prison cell. R’s offence was protesting the Israeli assault on Gaza. He joins over 700 other Israelis who have been detained since the beginning of Israel’s ruthless war on Gaza: an estimated 230 of whom are still behind bars. Within the Israeli context, this strategy of quelling protest and stifling resistance is unprecedented, and it is quite disturbing that the international media has failed to comment on it.
