First, the German people were harshly punished financially for their part in WWI, which created a terrible economic depression, which caused them to be susceptible to a demagogue like Hitler. After all, he didn't campaign on genocide and concentration camps, but on appeals to "the Homeland," and material plenty. The movement was slow, but progressive, and it sped up at the end. Many Germans DID suspect the criminals who had seized power, tried to denounce them, but watched as their friends rejected years of firm moral convictions to follow the reprehensible dictates of the "party," helpless to convince others what was going on behind the scenes, since those who denounced the "party" were rejected as non-patriotic or, maybe worse, just alarmist. Longstanding friendly relationships were destroyed over disagreements over politics, after YEARS of political agreement! Eventually, the Nazis took over EVERY aspect of the German's lives. The youth began to be trained in hyper-military fashion and brainwashed with extreme patriotism. REAL patriotism was subsumed into Nazism and anything else was terrorism. Soon enough, only those who worked for the "party" even had jobs, and they told their friends they should also work in the "party" programs. But the suspicious Germans began to call members of the "party" gangsters and thugs, as everything that was domestic began to take on a militarized government veneer. The German people could no longer live their lives without interference. Finally, the German people either fled or were arrested and "finished." And every bit of it had this pseudo-scientific overlay. We could go on and on all day with the correspondences here, but suffice it to say that those of us who ever wondered how the Nazis got away with it for so long, now we know from first-hand experience EXACTLY how this criminal syndicate put it over the German people.
