I am a police officer in Alexandria, La. which is about 100 miles south of Shreveport. I can safely speak for the officers of my department and say that we do not confiscate guns that are legally owned by private citizens. While we may inquire about the presence of weapons for our safety, that is about as far as we will go unless the weapon they have is stolen, being possessed by a convicted felon, or is otherwise part of a crime such as evidence. It really disturbs me and causes concern that this mans constitutional rights were violated because of his political beliefs. All police officers, myself included, took an oath to uphold the Constitution. The officer in Shreveport should know that his actions were illegal and also remember that not even the mayor can order him to anything illegal. Being that I too hold right wing beliefs, as do most officer I know, maybe I will stay away from Shreveport at least until they recognize the U.S. Constitution or get a mayor that has at least a working knowledge of holding public office.
