An absence of humor is like the absence of irony. Your perception becomes flat and two dimensional. Right or wrong. Patriot or anarchist. Communist or Capitalist. etc. A healthy and preferably twisted sense of irony is what informs Steven Hawking's comments on being incarcerated by the inquisition in the cell next to Galileo's for his chutzpah in pursuing the point of creation. After a conversaion with me, even the late Susan Sontag reconsidered some of her neo-liberal political positions. Her gradual shift from being a Soviet apologist to the realization that fascism and Stalinism are two sides of the same coin might be investigated by Mr. Chomsky & Co.
