Blair Worried Of A UK Future Exit Of EU
August 11th, 2012
(PressTV) – Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is deeply concerned that the UK could decide to leave the European Union (EU) by referendum.

In an interview with the German newspaper Die Zeit published on August 11, Blair explained that transferring competences to the EU must also be guided towards a more democratic legitimacy, adding, “Britain must play a strong role in this”.
Blair told the German newspaper with caution that the problem is may create “a political crisis that could become just as big as the euro crisis”, insisting that “people will not go along with the abolishment of the nation state”.
Earlier this year, Peter Mandelson, the EU trade commissioner, called for a referendum on the issue of Britain’s future relationship with Europe.
Meanwhile, polls reveal that an increasing number of people in Britain would vote against an EU membership in a referendum. The current Prime Minister David Cameron said last month that it was “a perfectly respectable position” to call for an referendum on the matter.”
However, supporters of the EU membership argue that the UK will lose influence by leaving the Union as it is the EU’s biggest trade partner.
