(NNN) – Meet the man behind the armed march on Washington DC – Adam Kokesh. There are few, if any, advocates of individual liberty who are as forceful — and as controversial – as Adam Kokesh. A Marine veteran of the Iraq war, Kokesh first courted controversy in 2007 when he participated, in uniform, in protests against that war, which he — like many other veterans — considered unnecessary, immoral, unjust, and counter-productive. He went on to become a Republican congressional candidate in New Mexico and then briefly hosted the Adam vs. the Man program on Russia Today’s American television network. He continues to broadcast the Adam vs. the Man show independently on YouTube.
In addition to his work in the media, Kokesh also believes in, and practices, civil disobedience. In one memorable protest he was one of five demonstrators arrested by the US Park Service for the supposed offense of dancing at the Jefferson Memorial. This Independence Day, Kokesh has called for supporters of the right to armed self-defense to gather in Washington, D.C. to conduct a peaceful armed march. Thousands have reportedly signed up for the protest, which Kokesh says would be a non-violent exercise of the right to open carry.
