(AJC) – A historic Nuke deal has been made with Iran. The accord will keep Iran from producing enough material for a nuclear weapon for at least 10 years and impose new provisions for inspections of Iranian facilities, including military sites. Read the rest of this entry »
Carter insisted military options would be used to “bolster the security of our friends and allies in the region, including Israel,” and that tens of thousands of US ground troops in the Gulf region are going “full speed ahead”in that direction.
Carter is planning to visit Israel next week, something the White House is touting as proof of US military cooperation with Israel. With Israel railing against the nuclear pact, the idle talk of a US attack was seen as an effort to placate Israeli leadership that the deal doesn’t necessarily foil their efforts to spark a war with Iran.
At the same time, it’s virtually unthinkable that the US would actually sign a deal with Iran one day and attack them the next, irrespective of the more pro-Israel narrative such claims put forward. The posturing on about the threat to attack both harms Iran’s trust that the deal is sincere and is ultimately dishonest, since the US naturally isn’t going to attack Iran at this point. – Source: Anti War
(ScriptoniteDaily) – I’ve been in Brussels today witnessing the Russell Tribunal on Palestine which is assessing Israel’s war crimes in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge. The full testimony is available on the Tribunal’s website, but I have captured some key excerpts from my live reporting today.
The likes of film maker Ken Loach, music legend Roger Waters and internationally renowned lawyers such as Michael Mansfield QC formed a jury – while expert witnesses from Gaza and beyond testified to the atrocities of the 50 day offensive. Read the rest of this entry »
Innocent people under military rule exposed to surveillance by Israel, say 43 ex-members of Unit 8200, including reservists
(Guardian) – Forty-three veterans of one of Israel’s most secretive military intelligence units – many of them still active reservists – have signed a public letter refusing to serve in operations involving the occupied Palestinian territories because of the widespread surveillance of innocent residents.
The signatories include officers, former instructors and senior NCOs from the country’s equivalent of America’s NSA or Britain’s GCHQ, known as Unit 8200 – or in Hebrew as Yehida Shmoneh-Matayim. Read More Here
(MiddleEastMonitor) – 42 Palestinian, Israeli, and international organizations have issued an urgent call to the international community to stop Israeli plans to “forcibly transfer” thousands of Palestinians in the West Bank from their communities into “a designated township”.
The joint statement is a response to Israeli government plans to “move Palestinian Bedouins out of their communities around Jericho, Ramallah, and Jerusalem”, including in so-called “E1”, an area that is a long-standing target for illegal settlement expansion. Read the rest of this entry »
(RussiaToday) – Without much media attention, thousands of American troops are being deployed to Israel, and Iranian officials believe that this is the latest and most blatant warning that the US will soon be attacking Tehran.
Tensions between nations have been high in recent months and have only worsened in the weeks since early December when Iran hijacked and recovered an American drone aircraft. Many have speculated that a back-and-forth between the two countries will soon escalate Iran and the US into an all-out war, and that event might occur sooner than thought. (ABCNews) – New video shows an upscale high-rise apartment building in Gaza City destroyed in a cloud of fire and smoke during an Israeli airstrike.

(Mondoweiss) – An astonishing piece by Henry Siegman, at the Norwegian Peacebuilding Resource Center, goes further than this Jewish leader, who escaped the Holocaust himself, has gone before. Siegman categorically defends the right of resistance for a subject people exposed to the violence of occupiers in occupied lands and says Palestinians may exercise the same right of resistance exercised by Jewish people in the 1940s. He uses the words “Dresden” and “incineration” to describe the destruction of Gaza, and then explicitly likens Netanyahu’s ideology of Jewish exceptionalism to the ideology of the Nazis.
(ElectronicIntifada) – Israeli Major-General Giora Eiland has urged that all food and water be cut off to Gaza’s nearly 1.8 million Palestinian residents – a major war crime and precisely the “starve or surrender” policy which the United States has condemned when used in Syria.
Eiland, the Israeli government’s former national security advisor, argues that Gaza should be considered an enemy “state.” Read the rest of this entry »
(Mondoweiss) – Hours before the latest ceasefire was set to expire last night, Israel resumed attacks on the Gaza Strip and Hamas again began to launch rockets. Both sides blamed each other for the failed ceasefire. Five missiles hit the al-Dalou family home in Gaza City, killing the wife and three-year-old daughter of Hamas military leader Mohammed Deif, and injuring 18. The al-Dalou family was targeted in 2012 when an airstrike destroyed their home. Read the rest of this entry »
(MyCatBirdSeat) – Mainstream media wants us to believe ISIS sprung up out of a hole in the ground and became powerful enough to take over large cities without any assistance from the big powers. The ineptitude of that narrative is an insult to everyone’s intelligence. Read the rest of this entry »
(BernieSuarez) – Some people may read this and say, no way, this is not a solution but I challenge your belief and I offer that this is indeed an effective and powerful way to move forward as a humanity with regard to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza.
Is there actually a way to end the war crimes in Gaza? There is, but the answer lies in our humanity not in politics, politicians, or a rigid ideology. Ideologies that result in human deaths are ideologies of hatred no matter how anyone spins it. We, as a humanity, must find a way of ending ideologies of hatred that serve political purposes. With acknowledgement of this first step we can then move forward to real solutions. Read the rest of this entry »
(BrandonTurbeville) – Since the inception of the Israeli state and its official formalization in 1948, Israel has baffled the world with its seeming irrational aggression, hypocrisy, brutality, and willingness to entirely ignore international law. Indeed, Israel is well-known for thumbing its nose at even the basic etiquette for international relations.
Israel’s sordid history – that of its connections to mega-rich banking families like the Rothschilds, racism, double-edged alliances, and genocide – has caused it to, therefore, be the target of many researchers and activists that see it as the sole source of evil upon the earth. Zionist Christians (mostly those in the West), have generally pledged religious allegiance to Israel under the pretext of supporting “God’s Chosen People” and Biblical prophecy. Still others pretend that Israel is the absolute pinnacle of the power structure and condemn Jews as responsible for all the horrors of the world.
(SJLendman) – On August 11, Human Rights Council (HRC) President Baudelaire Ndong Ella announced the formation of an “independent, international commission of inquiry” into war crimes committed during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge.

Israelis think Obama acts more like a European leader than an American

(ConservativePost) – The Daily Star (Lebanon) has reported:
PARIS: Israel’s right to security does not justify its actions in Gaza, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Monday, as he called for a political solution to be “imposed” by the international community.
“How many more deaths will it take to stop what must be called the carnage in Gaza?” Fabius said in a statement. “The tradition of friendship between Israel and France is an old one and Israel’s right to security is total, but this right does not justify the killing of children and the slaughter of civilians.” Read the rest of this entry »
