No Buyer’s Remorse For Endless Wars

A Washington Post and ABC News poll released on Sunday shows that while there is no honeymoon for Trump, there also are few regrets on the part of people who voted for him.

As noted, this poll finds no evidence of buyer’s remorse among Trump supporters. Among those who report having voted for him in November, 96 percent today say it was the right thing to do; a mere 2 percent regret it. And if a rerun of the election were held today, the poll indicates even the possibility of a Trump victory in the popular vote among 2016 voters.

In other words, Trump supporters back his move toward endless war, the illegal interventions in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Somalia, and an uptick in the murder of civilians.

On the other hand, supporters of Clinton and Obama also approved of war, although it is fair to say many of them were at best dimly aware of the reality of what Obama and his secretary of state were doing, primarily thanks to the war propaganda media showboating the wars as humanitarian efforts.

The poll is at odds with what we were told after Trump bombed the Shayrat airfield in Syria.

From The New York Times:

Some of President Trump’s most ardent campaign supporters were among his most vocal opponents on Thursday after he ordered the missile strike against Syria, charging him with breaking his promise to keep the United States out of another conflict in the Middle East.

This appears to be a minority. Others, including radio hosts Hugh Hewitt and Mark Levin, praised the attack. In addition, the attack, according to Laura Ingraham, “brought together three frequent critics of the president—the Republican senators Marco Rubio of Florida and John McCain of Arizona, as well as his Democratic opponent last fall, Hillary Clinton.”

In other words, it would seem there are very few Americans who oppose the war party agenda, including Democrats.

Polls can be fickle, of course, and are susceptible to manipulation. However, considering there is virtually no organized opposition to Trump’s inherited and new wars, the poll is probably more or less correct.
