People of Portugal rise again: “About 5000 demonstrators gathered around the parliament in Lisbon, occupied the grounds around it, trashing the fences and setting and huge cardboard pen-drive representing the new Budget on fire, which lasted for about a hour. The Internationale was sung by the protesters while the riot police with their dogs looked”.

You wont hear about in the mainstream media, but thousands of Portuguese surrounded their parliament last night to protest against another round harsh austerity measures. Protesters clashed with riot police and lit a large fire in front of the parliament photo from Lisbon 15/10/12

Global demonstrations were held today on monday 15 October in more than 950 cities in 82 countries. The global protests were part of a series of protests inspired by the Arab Spring, the Icelandic Revolution, the Portuguese “Geração à Rasca”, the Spanish “Indignants”, the Greek Protests and the Occupy movement.

This image was taken in Rome, Italy, where an estimated 400,000 people gathered to protest against corporate power, grinding poverty and government cuts. Hundreds of people clashed with police for hours, leaving more than 200 people injured, including 105 police officers. 12 people were arrested.

General assemblies, the social network n-1, mailing lists, and Facebook were used to coordinate the global demonstrations.

This very same day one of the main Dutch newspapers declared that the Occupy movement has “completely disappeared”. What do you think? Has the movement vanished or is it still alive? (ANI) – Astronomers are predicting that a massive solar storm, much bigger in potential than the one that caused spectacular light shows on Earth earlier this month, is to strike our planet in 2012 with a force of 100 million hydrogen bombs.

Several US media outlets have reported that NASA was warning the massive flare this month was just a precursor to a massive solar storm building that had the potential to wipe out the entire planet’s power grid.

Despite its rebuttal, NASA’s been watching out for this storm since 2006 and reports from the US this week claim the storms could hit on that most Hollywood of disaster dates – 2012.

Similar storms back in 1859 and 1921 caused worldwide chaos, wiping out telegraph wires on a massive scale. The 2012 storm has the potential to be even more disruptive. Read entire article
