The long-serving former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad says Arab Muslims are incapable of carrying out the 9/11 attacks on the United States that killed nearly 3,000 people.

Beijing has attributed any social unrest in Xinjiang to the forces of “terrorism, separatism and religious extremism” and has jailed and even executed alleged perpetrators, the Germany-based World Uyghur Congress said.

“The Chinese authorities found in 9/11 the perfect excuse to crack down on all forms of peaceful political, social and cultural Uighur dissent,” the exiled head of the Congress, Rebiya Kadeer, said in a statement.

The claim assumes that conspiracies cannot be kept covered up, a fallacy disproved by the Manhattan Project. The development of the nuclear bomb was kept hidden for years before its announcement, despite the fact that thousands of individuals from all kinds of different disciplines worked on the project.
