REPOST – (RussiaToday) – Pinning its hopes on the sole support of the US, Israel risks a collapse if it is ever withdrawn – much like apartheid-era South Africa, prominent scholar Professor Noam Chomsky warns. He recalls how South Africans felt safe to ignore a UN embargo and corporations pulling out of their country throughout the 1980s, as long as the Reagan administration continued to support them. As soon as the US withdrew its support, the apartheid regime collapsed. “For 35 years, the US and Israel have been rejecting a political settlement that is supported virtually by the entire world. (Fair) – This week on CounterSpin: Where things stand with the Arab Spring and drive for democracy in the region. U.S. interests have always been prioritized over human rights and democratic values; the people-powered uprisings have threatened the status quo and scrambled some of the usual media narratives. But how much? We’ll hear from MIT professor about longtime activist and critic Noam Chomsky about what has changed—and what hasn’t—over the past few months. Thus Obama was simply lying when he said, in his White House statement, that “we quickly learned that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda.”
(Guernica) – It’s increasingly clear that the operation was a planned assassination, multiply violating elementary norms of international law. There appears to have been no attempt to apprehend the unarmed victim, as presumably could have been done by 80 commandos facing virtually no opposition—except, they claim, from his wife, who lunged towards them. In societies that profess some respect for law, suspects are apprehended and brought to fair trial. I stress “suspects.” In April 2002, the head of the FBI, Robert Mueller, informed the press that after the most intensive investigation in history, the FBI could say no more than that it “believed” that the plot was hatched in Afghanistan, though implemented in the UAE and Germany. Sunni militant and prized CIA asset Abdolmalek Rigi went to the gallows on Sunday. The Jundullah leader was hanged in Iran’s Evin prison after being convicted by the Islamic Revolution Court of being a mohareb, or “enemy of Allah.” Rigi’s plane was forced to land by Iranian aircraft in February while on a flight from Dubai to Kyrgyzstan. Other accounts said he had been arrested inside Iran or Pakistan. “We have clear documents proving that Rigi was in co-operation with American, Israeli and British intelligence services,” Iran’s intelligence minister, Heydar Moslehi, said after Rigi’s capture. Moslehi said Rigi had been in a U.S. military base 24 hours before his arrest and was carrying an Afghan passport supplied by the United States. Read More Here
(SouthLebanon) – Noam Chomsky’s Hypocrisy
“I don’t regard myself as a critic of Israel. I regard myself a supporter of Israel … I think the U.S. should continue to support Israel”. [1] – Noam Chomsky
The American linguist Noam Chomsky is often described by Western media as “arguably the world’s most influential intellectual today”. To his friends, Chomsky is a “relentless thorn” in U.S.-Israel Zionist policies. But reading between the lines of his repetitive and recycled propaganda, Chomsky is an opportunistic hypocrite. Some Israelis argue that an ‘Iranophobia’ holds unnecessary sway over Israeli thinking about a wide range of problems, from rearming of Hezbollah to the ‘terrorist’ activists aboard the Gaza flotilla. Should Israel see less of a threat in Iran? Read More Here
As global awareness of Israeli terrorism continues to grow following the May 31 Mavi Marmara assault, an especially vocal critic is the Belgian-based Brussels Tribunal. On June 6, this writer interviewed a member of its executive committee, Dr. Ian Douglas. His words reflect the gravity of our current situation.
“Israel is seemingly unconcerned about committing murder in front of the eyes of the world,” said Douglas. Commenting specifically on their attack of a humanitarian aid ship in international waters, he said unabashedly: “This is not murder; it is destruction. There is a level of violence here that is sadistic and vengeful.”
Douglas next quoted an outspoken and acclaimed researcher in the field. Read More Here

The demonstrators, demanding an end to Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip, picketed at Berth 58, where a ship from Israel’s Zim shipping line is scheduled to dock later today. The day shift of longshoremen agreed not to cross the picket line.’

Hijacking boats in international waters and killing passengers is, of course, a serious crime.
But the crime is nothing new. For decades, Israel has been hijacking boats between Cyprus and Lebanon and killing or kidnapping passengers, sometimes holding them hostage in Israeli prisons.
Israel assumes that it can commit such crimes with impunity because the United States tolerates them and Europe generally follows the U.S.’s lead. Read the rest of this entry »

The fact that the Israel-Palestine conflict grinds on without resolution might appear to be rather strange. For many of the world’s conflicts, it is difficult even to conjure up a feasible settlement. In this case, it is not only possible, but there is near universal agreement on its basic contours: a two-state settlement along the internationally recognized (pre-June 1967) borders — with “minor and mutual modifications,” to adopt official U.S. terminology before Washington departed from the international community in the mid-1970s.
