(AlJazeera) – Nearly five million barrels of oil had gushed from BP’s well, according to official estimates. Despite the capping, the impact of the spill continues.

An investigation by an Al Jazeera online correspondent has found a growing number of toxic illnesses linked to BP oil dispersants along the Gulf coast.

(WashingtonsBlog) – Scientists from Oregon State University have found a 40-fold increase in the amount of cancer-causing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) near Louisiana’s Grande Isle between May and June.

The Oregon team is looking at “the fraction of PAHs that are bioavailable – that have the potential to move into the food chain.”

The inhumanity of the petrochemical-military-industrial-complex (PMIC) Gulf operation, warfare on Americans using its dispersant chemical weapon of mass destruction manufactured in the United States, becomes more apparent each passing day. (WashingtonsBlog) – BP and the government decided that millions of gallons of dispersants should be dumped into the Gulf to sink and hide the oil.

They succeeded in sinking it. As ABC, CBS and NPR note, huge quantities of oil are blanketing the ocean floor, killing virtually all of the sealife which lives there.

And giant new underwater plumes have been found in the water column itself.

A geochemist from East Carolina University, Siddhartha Mitra, was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to study the issue.

(IPS) – Another massive fish kill, this time in Louisiana, has alarmed scientists, fishers and environmentalists who believe they are caused by oil and dispersants.

On Aug. 22, St. Bernard Parish authorities reported a huge fish kill at the mouth of the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet.

“By our estimates there were thousands – and I’m talking about 5,000 to 15,000 – dead fish,” St. Bernard Parish President Craig Taffaro told reporters. “Different species were found dead, including crabs, sting rays, eel, drum, speckled trout, red fish, you name it, included in that kill.” Read the rest of this entry »

(PeoplesVoice) – For months, US media reports distorted and lied about its severity, running cover for BP and the Obama administration, now practically avoiding the crisis altogether as it worsens. An August 20 Inter Press Service report is revealing, quoting Biloxi, MS fisherman Danny Ross saying hypoxia (depleted oxygen) is driving horseshoe crabs, stingrays, flounder, dolphins, and other sea life “out of the water” to escape. Another area fisherman, David Wallis said he’s “seen crabs crawling out of the water in the middle of the day.”

Other reports cite strange marine life behavior, sighted near the surface when they normally stay well submerged. Alabama fisherman Stan Fournier said in 40 years of work, he’s never seen anything like it. “It looks like all the sea life is trying to get out of the water,” unable to breathe in their normal habitat, what US media reports won’t touch, instead hyping success, saying BP’s well capped and most oil dissolved when, in fact, it won’t degrade for decades, remaining a lethal cocktail combined with dispersants, killing wildlife and poisoning anyone eating it, assuring a coming epidemic of cancers and other diseases. US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee member Lisa Murkowski has urged Congress not to overreact legislatively to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

On May 13, Murkowski and other Republicans blocked Senate Democratic attempts to pass the “Big Oil Bailout Prevention Liability Act” which would cap BP’s liability at $10 billion, even if damages from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill surpass that figure.
