(OklahomaWatchdog) – As we noted here at Oklahoma Watchdog a week or so ago, the pharmacy chain Walgreens has been aggressively pushing this season’s combined seasonal/H1N1 flu vaccine. This, after 2009′s swine-flu scare that resulted in tons of vaccine that was left to rot in warehouses, resulting in lost revenue for vaccine manufacturers and others who profit off of health-related scaremongering. (PeoplesVoice) – When will the people of this nation understand that those they trust to guide them and protect them have nothing but contempt for them? Everyday there are people who have no work and have used up their 99 weeks of unemployment insurance, they are called the 99%’rs. Every day the people of this nation look into their television sets and hear the propaganda of a nation that is hell-bent on empire because they fear their own imminent collapse. This won’t affect the trans-national corporate hierarchy; they will just move to another country, it’s all the same to them. There is no patriotism and no loyalty to the United States among those that sit on the mantle of power.
The majority of Americans are decent, hard-working people, but they are none the less… stooges. They have been indoctrinated from birth to believe in a set of core values that are designed to keep them subservient and docile. They are the victims of propaganda that emanates from the government and the corporate media, designed to lead them to believe that we are “defending democracy” even though we have no real democracy of our own. (FinancialSense) – A little different subject for this article – still economics – but one that will probably have sufficient material in it to irritate almost everyone. In the interest of full disclosure, I am a Navy veteran, served in destroyers of the Atlantic Fleet as an Electronic and Fire Control Technician working out of Norfolk, VA., to the Med, N. Europe, Caribbean and the Middle East during the middle 1950′s. Further, I have a son-in-law who is a retired Navy Chief Fire Controlman who worked 20 years on various Fast Attack submarines in the Pacific, Atlantic and Polar waters. Two Grandsons are Marines. I have earned the right to my opinions whether anyone agrees with them or not.
Dwight Eisenhower, one of this countries most talented and brilliant military and political leaders (better military than political but he did his best), long ago warned us of the dangers of the Military/Industrial Complex – meaning the unholy marriage of government, the military and the vast and numerous industries that supplies the military with everything from toys to tools to stealth bombers and ballistic missiles. On January 17, 1961, in his parting speech to the American people, President Eisenhower specifically warned of the dangers and “grave implications” of the alliance between government and the military/industrial complex (he coined the phrase). He knew exactly what he was talking about. Read the rest of this entry »

(GlobalResearch) – Obama’s New Iran Sanctions: An Act of War – Shamus Cooke
When the UN refused to agree to the severe sanctions that the U.S. wanted, Obama responded with typical Bush flair and went solo. The new U.S. sanctions against Iran — signed into law by Obama on July 1st — are an unmistakable act of war.
If fully enforced, Iran’s economy will be potentially destroyed. The New York Times outlines the central parts of the sanctions: Read More Here

(FPIF) – Move the Money, Starve the Empire
Just as money for jobs, health care, education, and housing is going from taxpayer pockets to feed the military-industrial complex, so is the money for foreign military operations being used to displace farmers and indigenous people in every region of the world. Members of the No U.S. Bases movement described how the over 700 U.S. bases around the world have become sites of conflict between American soldiers and the local population. Meanwhile, the United States continues to expropriate land from farmers and indigenous people to expand or build new bases. Read More Here
(ProjectCensored) – Managed News: Inside The US/NATO Military Industrial Media Empire – Prof. Peter Phillips and Prof. Mickey Huff
We face what appears to be a military industrial media empire so powerful and complex that truth is mostly absent or reported in disconnected segments with little historical context. A case in point: The London Times reported on June 5, 2010, that American troops are now operating in 75 countries. Has President Obama secretly sanctioned a huge increase in the number of US Special Forces carrying out search-and-destroy missions against al-Qaeda around the world? If so, this increase is far in excess of special-forces operations under the Bush administration and reflects how aggressively Obama is pursuing al-Qaeda behind his public rhetoric of global engagement and diplomacy. Somehow this information didn’t make it into the US media. Read More Here
(Haaretz) – Israel can’t be trusted to probe Gaza flotilla raid, say Rachel Corrie’s parents
In the letter obtained by Haaretz, Cindy and Craig Corrie referred to the May 31 raid of the Gaza flotilla which resulted in the deaths of 9 activists, saying they wished to express their “continuing sorrow and outrage over the recent killings and injuries aboard the Mavi Marmara and other vessels that sailed with the Freedom Flotilla to break the siege of Gaza.”
“We write also to inform you,” the Corrie family added, “of the longstanding, U. S. government position that Israel has failed to conduct a thorough, credible and transparent investigation into our daughter’s killing and that after repeated attempts at the highest levels, U.S. officials have been unable to secure such an investigation.” Read More Here

(PoliticalTheatrics) – Seven Deadly Sins In Afghanistan
If we could establish that funding an escalation of war in Afghanistan was illegal, immoral, against the public will, economically catastrophic, counterproductive on its own terms, and a cynically motivated intentional failure, well then nothing would change. Unless people use that information in pressuring their representatives to vote No. Because most of this is pretty easily known. Nonetheless I think it’s a good place to start, so let me take these points one at a time. Read More Here

Today, Congressman Denis Kucinich, along with journalists and anti-war activists held a teach in on Capitol Hill. The idea being to discuss plans and strategies for ending U.S. wars abroad. And ending wars, is a beautiful idea. But at the same time, we have ads like this running on TV. Some would call this a perfect example of the military industrial complex. Defense contracts worth hundreds of billions that keep the machine pumping. And Obama, isn’t neccessarily helping to stop it. Quite the opposite, the ACLU just wrote a letter to him, in which they sent this message: “The Entire World Is Not A Warzone”. But is it too late for us to stop treating it like one? Alyona and Former Chief of Staff to Colin Powell, Lawrence Wilkerson discuss.
(StopNato) – Global Warfare: U.S. Consolidates Military Network In Asia-Pacific Region – Rick Rozoff
The United States has six naval fleets and eleven aircraft carrier strike groups patrolling the world’s oceans and seas. The U.S. Navy is as large as the world’s next thirteen biggest navies combined.
Washington has as many aircraft carriers as all other nations together. Russia has one; China has none. The U.S. and its NATO allies – Britain, Italy, France and Spain – account for 17 of 22 in service in the world. Ten of the eleven American carriers are Nimitz class nuclear-powered supercarriers, substantially larger than most all non-U.S. ones. The U.S. Navy has all ten supercarriers in the world at the moment. Read More Here

History may not repeat itself, but it does rhyme. I have been in the camp that this is a bear market rally. That is what I thought we would be getting in March. I’m also in the camp that because of the need to deleverage debt in most of the developed world, we will likely be heading into a global economic depression and perhaps at worse case, a collapse in the banking system. The banking system has taken the country to the financial edge of the greatest recession since the depression. The enormous number of bad loans floating out in the economy only complicates the unemployment situation. When we look into the latest banking data, we realize that over 1,000 of current banks will fail or merge with a too big too fail bank. In fact, the total number will be over 1,000 simply because the “not too big” to fail banks heavily bet on commercial real estate loans that amount to $3 trillion. Read the rest of this entry »

An unflinching look at the military industrial complex and the rise of the American Empire. Inspired by Dwight Eisenhower’s legendary farewell speech (in which he coined the phrase “military industrial complex”), the film surveys the scorched landscape of a half-century’s military adventures, asking how – and telling why – a nation of, by, and for the people has become the savings-and-loan of a system whose survival depends on a state of constant war.
