(Reuters) – A top Swedish prosecutor said on Wednesday she was reopening an investigation into rape allegations against Julian Assange, the founder of whistleblowing website WikiLeaks.
WikiLeaks published more than 70,000 secret military files on Afghanistan in July in what U.S. officials have called one of the biggest security breaches in U.S. military history.
Assange has denied the charges, which a lower official had withdrawn two weeks ago, and said he has been warned by Australian intelligence that he could face a campaign to discredit him after leaking the documents.

(WashingtonPost) – The Obama administration is seeking to make it easier for the FBI to compel companies to turn over records of an individual’s Internet activity without a court order if agents deem the information relevant to a terrorism or intelligence investigation.
The administration wants to add just four words — “electronic communication transactional records” — to a list of items that the law says the FBI may demand without a judge’s approval. Government lawyers say this category of information includes the addresses to which an Internet user sends e-mail; the times and dates e-mail was sent and received; and possibly a user’s browser history. (911Speakout) – There is ample evidence, from both witnesses and recordings, of explosions associated with the destruction of World Trade Center Building 7 (WTC 7). NIST sidestepped investigating explosions and explosives by setting up an artificially high threshold of interest. They swept aside any testimony or recordings of explosions that would not register 130-140 dB one kilometer away. They established this criterion using RDX (one of the loudest explosives) in a scenario that produced a far higher sound level than other possible uses of explosives to bring down the building. Then they turned around and used sound level as the sole criterion for deciding whether the use of explosives was a credible hypothesis. By this maneuver, they sidestepped investigating the testimony of explosives or possible evidence of explosive residues. (CNN) – BP had three indications of trouble aboard the doomed drill rig Deepwater Horizon in the hour before the April 20 explosion that sank the offshore platform, congressional investigators reported Tuesday.
Witnesses reported the well was spurting liquid and pressure tests indicated “a very large abnormality” was occurring aboard the rig, according to a memo released by the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Tuesday afternoon.
The memo summarizes preliminary findings of BP’s own investigation into the disaster, which left 11 workers dead and uncapped an undersea gusher that has spewed crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico for a month.
The well unexpectedly spouted fluid three times in the 51 minutes before the explosion and pressure on the drill pipe “unexpectedly increased” before the blast, the memo states. In addition, BP’s investigation “raised concerns about the maintenance history, modification, inspection, and testing” of blowout preventer, a critical piece of equipment that has failed to shut down the well. – Source: CNN

(ABC27) – Harrisburg, Pa. – The state attorney general’s office has issued a subpoena threatening officials of the social networking service Twitter with arrest unless they reveal the names of two bloggers who have been critical of Attorney General Tom Corbett and his public corruption investigation.
The subpoena orders Twitter’s custodian of records to provide “any and all subscriber information” pertaining to the accounts “bfbarbie” and “CasablancaPA,” including name, address, contact information, creation date, and Internet protocol address.
The accounts have criticized Corbett’s use of grand juries, suggesting he used the investigations for political gain and to go after political opponents.
The Twitter representative was supposed to appear before the statewide investigating grand jury on May 14 to “give evidence regarding alleged violations of the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.” The court document does not specify what crime is being investigated. Read entire article
