(WebOfDebt) – Hyperinflation or Deflation? Dramatic Fiscal Austerity Measures: “Deficit Terrorists” Strike in the UK — The USA is Next – Ellen Brown
Last week, England’s new government said it would abandon the previous government’s stimulus program and introduce the austerity measures required to pay down its estimated $1 trillion in debts. That means cutting public spending, laying off workers, reducing consumption, and increasing unemployment and bankruptcies. It also means shrinking the money supply, since virtually all “money” today originates as loans or debt. Reducing the outstanding debt will reduce the amount of money available to pay workers and buy goods, precipitating depression and further economic pain. Read More Here

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has declared (April 28) that he is making global warming the Senate’s top priority. (C3Headlines) – Trees of Medieval Warming Period Found Under Swiss Glacier: Scientists Conclude MWP Warmer Than Present
Read here. Map here. Studying the fossil remains of trees located under a Swiss glacier, scientists verify that the treeline was some 200 meters higher than the current one. This indicates that Medieval Warming Period (MWP) was not only warmer, but lasted an extended period.
“Based on radiocarbon dating of the fossil wood remains of eight larch fragments found one meter beneath the surface of the ground at the base of the front of the Piancabella rock glacier,… the authors determined that the wood was formed somewhere between AD 1040 and 1280 …Then, based on this information and “geomorphological, climatological and geophysical observations,” they inferred that “the treeline in the Medieval Warm Period was about 200 meters higher than in the middle of the 20th century, which corresponds to a mean summer temperature as much as 1.2°C warmer than in AD 1950.”…adjusting for warming between 1950 and the present, we calculate
that the MWP was about 0.5°C warmer than the peak warmth of the CWP.”

“With all the hysteria, all the fear, all the phony science, could it be that manmade global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people? I believe it is.” – US Senator James M Inhofe (Republican – Oklahoma), 28 July 2003.
Such is the rallying cry of the climate change denial movement. Since Senator Inhofe made this statement seven years ago, the drive to discredit climate change and the science that underpins it has enjoyed considerable success, even as awareness about climate change and the threat it poses to humanity has gone mainstream. (EndOfTheAmericanDream) – The talking heads on all the major news shows keep telling us that the U.S. economy is experiencing a recovery. Usually the term “recovery” is accompanied by a qualifier such as “jobless”, but they continue to use the word recovery anyway. We are told that the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression is behind us and that the great American economic machine is roaring back to life and everything will be back to normal soon. So why does it seem like things keep getting worse? Why does it seem like the American Dream is out of reach for more Americans than ever? Why does it seem like economic pain is spreading to more families and more businesses?
Well, maybe it is because things are getting worse. Read the rest of this entry »

2nd January 2010
(MSNBC) – A record 20 million-plus Americans collected unemployment benefits at some point in 2009, a year that ended with the jobless rate at 10 percent.
As the pace of layoffs slows, the number of new applicants visiting unemployment offices has been on the decline in recent months. But limited hiring means the ranks of the long-term unemployed continues to grow, with more than 5.8 million people out of work for more than six months.
The number of new claims for jobless benefits dropped last week to 432,000, the Labor Department said Thursday, down sharply from its late March peak of 674,000. The decline signals that the economy could begin adding a small number of jobs in January, several economists said. Read More Here

23rd September 2009
Unemployment in the US is at Great Depression levels. When discouraged and part-time workers are included, the real unemployment rate (how it used to be counted in official statistics) is over 20%. This has predictable outcomes for our children: one million homeless students, class sizes of 40-50 while 100,000 laid-off teachers sit at home, and our children’s growing disgust with American so-called ingenuity and leadership. 28th August 2009
In the last few months the world economy has been saved from a near-depression. That feat has been achieved by a range of extraordinary government stimulus measures: In the U.S. and in China, and to a lesser extent in Europe, Japan and other countries, governments have pumped liquidity, slashed policy rates, cut taxes, primed demand and ring-fenced and back-stopped the financial system. All of this has worked, but at a cost. Governments have been spending and borrowing like never before. The question now is: how do they stop? Read the rest of this entry »
