(Corbett) – North Korea is warning of war, saying it will attack South Korea if its neighbour takes part in fresh UN sanctions. The ultimatum marks a third day of fiery rhetoric, with Pyonyang previously vowing more nuclear and ballistic tests. James Corbett, editor of a Japan-based news website, says the region is on the brink. Read the rest of this entry »

(BBC) – North Korea’s recent rocket launch shows it has the ability to fire a rocket more than 10,000km (6,200 miles), South Korean officials say.
The estimate, which would potentially put the Western US in range, was based on an analysis of rocket debris.
However, there was no confirmation that the North had the re-entry technology needed to deliver a missile.
Experts believe North Korea is also years away from gaining the ability to mount a nuclear bomb on a missile. Full article here

When North Korea threatened to launch a ballistic missile in March, the Pentagon responded coolly. No effort would be made to shoot down the test missile, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said. The experimental, floating SBX missile-defense radar, would stay in dry-dock. This was a test, not an imminent attack, after all; and it would’ve cost as much as $100 million to move the thing into place. Read the rest of this entry »

North Korea says it will attack South Korea if its ships are searched as part of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI). The Barack Obama administration is continuing the neo-conservative agenda of US military domination of the world— albeit with perhaps a kinder-gentler face. While overt torture is now forbidden for the CIA and Pentagon, and symbolic gestures like the closing of the Guantanamo prison are in evidence, a unilateral military dominance policy, expanding military budget, and wars of occupation and aggression will likely continue unabated.
