  1. At least Peter and I agree that government is the problem, and that it needs to be seriously downsized (to zero). I can’t agree with his views on capitalism, however.

  3. I know a lot of people probably think this is about socialism, which so many disagree with. But not only would THIS socialism be different than anything we’ve ever seen, socialism has much more potential than capitalism when it comes to the common good. It’s better to work with others, let me explain.
    Selfishness and self interest are two different things. If one is self-interested, it would be better to work with others to achieve the most benefits from a system that these other people are trying to benefit from (ie tragedy of the commons; prisoner’s dilemma). This is one of the major reasons that I disagree with Ron Paul on his libertarian ideals, but I still wouldve voted for him. When people are individualistic and selfish, it spawns elites and top dogs that most of us hate because they have so much power and little concern for the common good.
    Zeitgeist Addendum talks about a society where there are no laws, no money and only people who use resources efficiently and help one another. It claims that peoples’ incentives will be changed–with the absence of a monetary system–into a desire for knowledge, efficiency, freedom and community. Personally, I agree that humans have always wanted this and that (as unlikely as it sounds) this could work. What do you think, Deprogram readers?

  6. The Venus Project seems to be a simple replacement for government. I have to say that I agree that government is at the root of our issues. However, I cannot agree that money is the problem. Nor can I agree that a “resource-based” economy would solve one problem. Isn’t money a generic resource? Surely money itself is not responsible for our social problems.

    Our lack of awareness is the core issue here. Replace money with a resource-based economy tomorrow and you’d have exactly the same flavor of problem. Greedy people will hoarde resources. Unmotivated people will not work to achieve. Average folks will continue to be average.

    Take a look at the Venus Project website and see the depth of the madness being forwarded. A centrally managed economy based on the “god” of technology will not solve our problems. We must come to grips with ourselves first. It seems to me that we must develop ourselves before we can prescribe any solution to this problem.

  8. A point sorely missed by this video is that open-competition, free market, free trade are not the goals of the world bank, imf, and the u.s…. they are destroyed by them. The corporatocracy exists due to the leverage the governments provide by a monopoly on force.
